连接待外国人专收外汇券的宾馆和只凭介绍信接待内宾的招待所和疗养院，更别说那些相争拉客的私人小客店，都以这块宝地的名字为标榜。（《灵山》第一章）
......and the name of the place is used in the trade names of all the "foreign exchange currency only" hotels for foreigners, the "locals with references only" hostels and sanatoriums, and of course the small private hotels competing for customers.
评：“内宾”不一定是 locals （当地人）。

“Locals”与“foreiners"相对，恐怕未必不可指“中国内地人”。

此“locals”本身是界限模糊的informal word, referring to people living in ANY particular area， 在这里与foreigners 相对，就不应仅局限于故事发生的当地小区，而完全可以泛指非“外宾”的人，即婉称“内宾”的、不是从国外入境的所有中国人。所以那样翻译应属没问题。

(1) i agree with Mr. YeCao. the word "locals" is the kinder, more politically-correct version of "natives" (as opposed to foreigners).
(2) i think people often say "strech limo" or maybe i mis-heard again.
(3) yes, Razor Scooter is one of the hot items this holiday season. shhhhh, i'm actually getting my wife one for Christmas. i remember reading an article about the Taiwan company that makes Razor (their brand name) in businessweek sometime ago. and yes, the word "scooter" usually refers to those cute little motorcycles (like 木兰 from a few years ago).

(5) uncle yeti, thanks for your "early bird" post. we were just down in the sunshine state for our winter getaway. didn't compete with the retarded folks for "early birds" though. finished the latest Tom Clancy on the beach. (i think he should retire after this one. IMHO, "the bear and the dragon" is Clancy Lite at best.) on the subject of Clancy's books, we get to know in this latest installment that the Cardinal ("... of Kremlin", as in an earlier title in the Jack Ryan series) actually refers to the bird, not the catholic clergy man. oops, i remember the chinese translation of that earlier book had the title "克里姆林宫的红衣主教". you just can't win!

heard me right. Do you happen to know which movie it is ?
I ask because of Laoliu's post about this phallic symbol in a site he came across a few days ago. I remember in this comedy they showed a whole bunch of such symbols as a kind of a joke.
