Good morning/afternoon/evening!
I am thinking of buying a computer and have come across the following terms (among others) when looking at ads:
xxMB RAM
xxGB hard-drive
xxMHz technology
I sort of know (and sort of don't) what they are. Of course I can always look them up in a tech/computer (E-C) dictionary. Just want to know if you guys know of any web site in Chinese that sell computers so I can just hop over and visit instead of thumbing thru a big dictionary.
Also, I have heard of "xxbytes" which is Zi(4) Jie(1), isn't it? . There are kilobytes (Qian), megabytes (Zhao), and gigabytes (Qian Zhao). Now what about terabytes and petabytes? What are they in Chinese? Which is bigger, tera or peta?
Thank you very much!

A brief explanation...

RAM means random access memory. It is the place where you load your processes and
data, and store the intermediate results of the calculation. The bigger, the better,
as long as you can afford it. Bigger RAM will reduce swapping data back and forth
between RAM and hard disk (where your virtual memory resides.) A "good" PC should
have 64 MB RAM.
Hard drive or hard disk is the warehouse where you stall your programs, files,
pictures, songs, and everything else. With the falling price of hard disk and
exploding sizes of software, a "good" PC should have 2 GB at least.
Processor speed is measured in MHZ, the fastest one just coming out is 1 GHZ. For
PC's, the major manufacturers are Intel, AMD. Pentium series are manufactured by
Intel.
A byte is the smallest unit to store a number or a letter. Certainly there are
technologies to cramp more staff into one byte. 1024 bytes is a KB, 1024 KB is
a MB and so on...
Not sure about the Chinese translations of those units. Search Chinese Yahoo,
and you may find many links that lead to a right place. Good luck.

Sorry, should be stuff, not staff. But I'd love to...
