" Generic drug " or " generic VERSION of drug" ?
"A generic drug" is a drug "having no brand name", one that is "not protected by a registered trademark". When you fill your prescription at a drug store, or when you buy your drug over the counter, you may have options to get a "brand name" one or a "generic" one, the latter usually a lot less expensive, but maybe equally effective. Not sure what it is called professionally in Chinese(普通牌子？), but at least it is in contrast with 名牌药。 FYR。
