黄鹤楼送孟浩然之广陵①
A friend of mine (American) was given a piece of calligraphic art with the following poem. Since he does not understand Chinese, so he asked me to translate this for him. I think my translation was too humble , did not convey the spirit of this beautiful poem, so I am asking if anyone has an English version of this poem. Thanks a lot in advance.
【唐】李白
故人西辞黄鹤楼,
烟花三月下扬州。
孤帆远影碧空尽,
惟见长江天际流。
Here is my translation for you to comment on:
An old friend of mine departing the Yellow Crane Pavilion
is bound for the West,
to Yangzhou City in this blossoming March.
The lonely sail in its distant silhouette disappears into the clear blue sky,
leaving visible only the Yangtze River running to the horizon.
This is not a poem, rather, it's just a plain text. What a shame!

Good translation! Quite effective English that demands not corrections but some possible suggestions

bound for the West to Yangzhou City in blossoming March.
That lonely sail in its distant silhouette disappears into far blue sky,
leaving visible only the Yangtze River running to the horizon.

西辞:向西告别;下:顺江而下,应是朝东吧?我方向感极差,只认左右,难辩东西:-),见谅!

Bidding farewell to the Yellow Crane Tower
My old friend went east down to Yangchou
In this March when blossoms mix with mist
His lonely sail dwindles into a spot
Where the blue sky meets the Yangtze River
That flows up, melting into the clounds
我以为“西”字用“东”字带出即可, 否则译成 bid farewell to the west, bid farewell to the Yellow Crane Tower in the west 都太麻烦了。

Bidding farewell to the Yellow Crane Tower,
my old friend went east by sea,
in the blossoming March to Yangzhou city.
Seeing the lonely sail vanishing into the far blue shy,
leaving only the Yangtze River running forward in sight.
