In tune with the scope of these changes, the presentations were
insightful and provided attendees with the occasion not only to learn more
about issues that will directly impact their businesses, but also to discover
what these changes signify for businesses. The discussions focused on the
economy, risk management issues, changes in the capital and securities markets
and offered advice from legal, human-resources, tax, and due-diligence perspectives.
The sectoral panels, which concluded the formal portion of the conference,
highlighted transportation, telecommunication, agri-food and environmental
industries.
(1) insightful
(The sectoral panels, which concluded the formal portion
of the conference)
He acknowledged the organization's efforts in co-organizing outreach
programs to Tianjin, Qingdao and Xiamen, as well as coordinating the highly
successful trade mission to Dalian.
(2) outreach programs
He also praised the organization for acting as an advocate for the
private sector to government, helping create real business opportunities.
The advantage of approaching the organization for assistance is
that it can act as a steady hand in times of turmoil and provide a helpful
perspective on the current difficulties.
(1) a steady hand in times of turmoil
(2) a helpful perspective “(在目前的困境中)有助于统观全局的看法”?
Our new market services, business programs and office alternatives,
can directly address the needs of SMEs on both sides.
The organization can be instrumental in showcasing PRC as a wonderful
destination for investment and as a gateway to a market of millions of customers.
(另外一个)有百万消费者的市场”的意思(即:PRC不等于a market of millions of
customers)?“showcasing PRC as a gateway to a market of millions of customers”
是否应为“showcasing PRC as a market of millions of customers”?
China needs to continue to attract capital and technology on favourable
terms.
TIA!

A steady hand in times of turmoil

concluded: the sectoral panels were the end of the formal portion
The organization can be instrumental in showcasing PRC as a wonderful destination for investment and as a gateway to a market of millions of customers.
如果勉强地把“PRC...as a gateway”理解为官僚机构的总体,而“PRC as a wonderful destination”却仍然是中国,则出现了一词二义的情况。

Due Diligence. Hope the following information helps.
作者:The Yeti - 2000/04/14 01:52:03
***
Due diliegence is the process of checking the validity of someone else's claim
of asset value. This is a procedure usually used when a merger
and/or acquisition is about to take place.
E.g. Epicurean Resturant International wants to take over Canadian
Fat Lobsters Limited (CFLL) for a certain sum of money. CFLL claims
they have 6000 boats and each boat hauls in 300 lobsters a day. On
top of that, they claimed that they have an inventory of 50000 1 lb
and 10000 1.5 lb lobsters in storage. ERI, before closing
the deal to acquire CFLL, will do a due diligence study to confirm
the claim of CFLL.
ERI will sent in auditors to check the claims of CFLL: how
many boats that are actually afloat, how many lobsters that are
fresh etc..
Example II: A recent case of mining fraud
A Canadian mining Company called Bre-X claimed to have discovered
a mine that has hundreads of thousands of ounces of gold reserves
deep in the jungles of Indonesia. Several companies wanted to acquired Bre-X.
After a lengthly negotiation, Freeport McMoran (I think)
won the bid. However, the deal will not be consumated until a due diligence
has been carried out. Guess what happened ? The due diligence reveal
no gold !
