用来吹嘘产品,仪器的"state of the art", 请问其确切定义及有无成译?

有无成译不清楚,但是说“最先进”应该是保险的。重要的是,把“最先进”译成英语时不要仅局限于用“most advanced”之类,而且State-of-the-art 口气上恐怕不一定是完全吹嘘吧。

对!迄今为止,我似乎没见过我们大陆的产品介绍是用这个词的,都是千篇一律的“highly advanced”之类!

应该说这个词现在是最地道和最习用的(比起advanced来), 虽然英汉词典上查不到, 我看多了也知道大概啥意思了, 但不知道权威的释义, 另外是不明白为什么 art 和 state 这两个词放在一起就是"最先进的", 有什么起源上的解释?
说到我们就知道用 advanced, 确实很怪. 其实除了state-of-the-art, 相应的词仍然多, 比如 latest, up-to-date, 甚至简单的 modern 都不比 advanced, developed 差.

其实,我们这里经常讲“高新科技”,用这词来对译应该可以。

对“state of the art”的中英文解释都很准确。但是。。。

“高新技术”是有特定涵义的。高技术(high-tech)、新技术(new-tech)是指特定领域的技术,如“信息技术”、“基因工程”、“新材料”等领域的新突破、新发明。
而“state of the art”更多是指某项产品、设备的工艺水平达到了当前最高水平。也可能采纳了“高新技术”,也可能与“高新技术”不沾边,没关系。关键是目前为止的最高水平就行。因此,国内常说的“达到国际先进水平”倒是与“state of the art”很接近。

啊呀,我就把它翻成“近乎艺术性的”,同意seven的思路。翻出“艺术”二字好像更有味道,具体用词可应句而异吧。
