How to translate: Qi2 Hu3 Nang2 Xia4 ? I checked my Chinese-English dictionary and got the following: ride a tiger and hard to get off. Any better way to say it? Thanks in advance.

Bitten off more than you could chew.

The way I see it, the original Chinese saying expresses the idea that somehow
you got yourself into trouble by climbing onto the back of the tiger. You have
now gotten yourself into a position where you can't get off (i.e. something you cannot
handle.) The English phrase ,"You have bitten off more than you could chew" expresses
the same senitment. You got yourself into trouble by taking on something bigger
than you can handle.

That can be used to translate "吃不了兜着走"

"吃不了兜着走" seems to be more conclusive than "骑虎难下." While the former is almost certain that one has gotten something he cannot handle, the latter only describes someone caught between the horns of a dilemma which he may or may not be able to get through.
To translate "吃不了兜着走" into "having bitten off more than one could chew" would be perfect. "To get oneself in hot water" could be considered an alternative as well.

北京方言 "吃不了兜着走“ 和 Bite Off ...

Bite off more than one could chew 则是指做力不胜
任、力不从心的事。

妙语、熟语的使用不能脱离上下文似乎已经达成共识。谢谢!
