Translated by Yu, Lan
In 1947 shortly after the WWII, many materials left from the war provided amateur radio fans great pleasure and accompanied them in their nice days.
At that time, the 10 meter band had just opened and radio traffic was active there. I made a QRP radio with an output power of 10 W. I also made my own receiver. I used an electrical wire that was connected to the iron cloth wire as antenna.
One evening when I was tuning my home-made radio, I suddenly heard a radio calling CQ in fluent English. I listened again carefully. It was C1CH, from distant China. Then I heard many radios in Vancouvre calling this station but their calls were like stones thrown into the ocean. I thought:" why not give it a try?". I grasped my mic and called several times and then attached the antenna to the receiver. After a while, good heavens! I hear his voice. C1CH was calling VE7KH. I was so excited that I tumbled from my chair and my mic also fell to the ground. I could hardly believe this was true. A radio in far away China got my signal sent from a cloth wire! We talked for half an hour and exchanged QSL cards.
That night I was responding to the calls from the hams in Vancouvre. When they learned about my equipment, they sounded so unbelieveable that I was very happy about myself.
I have kept that QSL card for more than 40 years. Although today's equipments are far more advanced than in old days, my home made stuff still makes me feel proud of myself.
