翻译应该活而不死，不要只从字面意思上务求面面俱到。 词义， 风格， 使用频率都要考虑。 “欢聚”是很普通的词， 而“jollification" 应该是个不太常用的词。 所以风格味道上对不上。同理， "润色"译成 "revise" 就行了， 不必找一个多么文雅的词。 更不能死译成 "wet the color" (of my article)

方先生说得好，翻译要活译，切忌死译。Jollification 不仅词太 偏，而且词义也与“欢聚”相去甚远。其实，“聚”无非是meet，“欢聚在北京”如是句口号，说成 Meet in Beijing 足矣。 实在要强调“欢”而非他的话，用通俗的 happy 或 jolly 也未尝不可。“欢聚在北京”究竟是谁聚呢？是旧友重逢？还是新相识的一群？译法都可以不同。因此，根据不同情况，似可选择：
Reunion in Beijing
Jolly party in Beijing
Meet in Beijing
......

How about " a get-together" if it is among friends, or just "gathered in Beijing" " bring ...together in Beijing", happily or not.

“jollification”一词亦不见得雅。Longman上标明是“非正式”的：infml harmless fun and enjoyment。最重要的是“欢聚在北京”一语是大白话，“雅致”一说无从谈起。

Jollification 字典上除了注明是 informal 外，也还注明是 dated 或 old-fashioned (用法已旧). 它的意义有些类似我们讲的“联欢”，“欢庆”，“喜庆”(活动)。

一步到位法：直接找“A Jollification is a community”

在www.infosee.com或www.lycos.com或www.excite.com直接输入A Jollification is a community，并用引号（注意必须用英文的）引住，即把“A Jollification is a community”作为关键字，则可直接找学而找到的那一页。
以上三个搜索引擎有一个好处是可以“search with in results”，这样可以一步步地缩窄范围。

用搜索引掣找东西能找到好东西, 但也是泥沙混杂, 得花时间, 有耐心去伪存真. 假定学而君用的是 YAHOO, 俺 reconstruct 一下他的查找.
首先到 www.yahoo.com, 打入 jollification, 然后 SEARCH, 出来首页结果如:

有500多网页. 学而君根据各条显示有 jollification 一词的上下文, 进入相应网站, 再用菜单寻找锁定jollification所在的句子段落, 看是否为合适的例子, 如果不是, 再往下找. 幸好学而君举例的三个网站在前四十个结果里. 即使这样, 加上copy等, 他也为了这个贴子花了相当的时间关键词搜索, 所以我们应当感谢每一位上贴的人和他们的努力. 事情总是看着别人容易. :-)
现在的搜索工具还是太笨, 人要花很多精力才能找到真正要的信息. 就象在 basement 或 cellar 里找把小剪子 :-)

Beijing, China (Sinhwa, September 12) - A million people turned Tienanmen into a giant street party Tuesday to celebrate the arrival of Chang-e the Fairy that heralds the opening of the biggest Moon-cake Eating Festival in history.
Casting aside cynicism about corruption and the rampant AIDS, Chinese and foreigners thronged the ancient city with its world famous Egg-shaped opera house facing the colossal MAOsoleum. Twenty-deep they lined the streets to glimpse the Fairy, who was accompanied by her Honorable husband Wu Gang.
A 10-ton moon-cake, with the Fairy sitting on top, was paraded around the city before it finally showed up in Tienanmen. The Mayor and many Party dignitaries were seen guarding the cake while waving to the cheering crowds.
The gala celebration will culminate tonight with the Moon-cake slicing ceremony presided over by Madame Wu Ze Tian. American singer Elvis Presley will perform at the ceremony, together with the Chinese great poet Li Bai.
There will be grand fireworks show to accompany the unprecedented frolic and gluttony in the Red Capital .

先坦白交代，上文是俺炮制的。受奥运会启发，想出个语境好给
jollification派个恰当的用场，算是赞同、支持学而兄的观点。故 意弄得荒唐可笑，且特意添了 frolic 之类与jollification 相配，希望衬出这类词的register！匆匆草就的玩意儿，不能太 认真。
倒是把久违的老刘给引出来了，皆大欢喜，希望老刘常来，大夥儿都念叨您哪！
