(The physicists have known sin and this is a knowledge that they cannot lose.)

The physicists have known that it's a sin and this is the knowledge that they cannot lose?

我看原句没问题,这knowledge 还是指 the knowledge of sin。

质疑“have known"

如果是说他们知道,为什么不说“They know or they knew" 而用”have known"呢?

Romans 7:7 --
[What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.] (King James version)
[What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet, if it had not been for the law, I should not have known sin. I should not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, "You shall not covet." ] (Modern verion)
(Chinese version)
“The physicists have known sin and this is a knowledge that they cannot lose.”

就是说,科学家们已经知道了原子的秘密(which was abused and thus became a sin), 一旦知道,就无法再回到不知道的状态了。The innocence is lost for ever.
