李敖《笑傲五十年》（中国友谊出版社，１９９９）中《真科学家的觉悟》有这样的话（该书２９３页）：

在日本广岛那一颗丢下后，他（引者注：指J. Robert Oppenheimer）深感痛苦，他说：“科学家已经知道罪
恶，这是他们摆脱不掉的知识。”（The physicists have known sin and this is a knowledge that they cannot lose.）

评：括号内为李敖所注英文原文。文中的this指“知道罪恶”这个事实。后边的knowledge仍指“知道罪恶”，译为“知识”，不如译为“（知道罪恶）这个事实”。全句似乎可以译为“科学家已经知道罪恶，这个事实是他们无法摆脱的”。
