《汉英翻译技巧》（单其昌编，外语教学与研究出版社， １９９０，第２１１页）：
The statement capped a day of diplomatic maneuvering.
这个声明引起了一天的外交活动。

评：to cap 是“结束”的意思。可以译为“经过一天的外交斡旋，发表了这个声明”，或者“该声明是一天外交谈判的结果”。
