Mr. Cao's fables, funny and touching in themselves, are dependent to some extent, it should be said, on the narrator's dialect.
评:最后一个词“语调”不是intonation(句子的音调变化),但也不是dialect(方言);应该是“讲故事的方式,语气,腔调”,所以可以译为way of narration或者tone in telling the stories。
Mr. Cao's success in making his fables so funny and moving depends to some extent on his tone of narration.

Do you think this will work ?

Although Mr.Cao's fables are inherently funny and moving, how much of that can be succesfully passed on to the audience depends on the expressions of the story teller.

I just thought of another alternative...

I don't know if this version is better or worse than my last one.
Mr.Cao's fables are inherently comical and poignant but whether that can
be felt by the audience depends on how expressively the stories are presented.
