《汉英翻译技巧》（外语教学与研究出版社， １９９０，第３４２页）：
应该说，曹先生的寓言之所以有趣、感人，它的成功在某种程度上靠的是讲故事人的语调。
Mr. Cao's fables, funny and touching in themselves, are dependent to some extent, it should be said, on the narrator's dialect.

评：最后一个词“语调”不是intonation（句子的音调变化），但也不是dialect（方言）；应该是“讲故事的方式，语气，腔调”，所以可以译为way of narration或者tone in telling the stories。另外，“成功”也没有译出。可译成：
Mr. Cao's success in making his fables so funny and moving depends to some extent on his tone of narration.
