读书评译（１２）：“南树德堂”
John Byron、Robert Pack所著《The Claws of the Dragon》（Simon & Schuster, 1992) ，两位都是中国通，却将地名“南树德堂”翻译为Virtuous Hall of Southern Tree（３７ 页）。

评：该书作者以为“南”修饰“树”，“德”修饰“堂”，“南树”修饰“德堂”，所以出了“洋”相。其实，“树”是动词，意思是树立、培养，带宾语“德”。“树德”再修饰“堂”，最后是“南”限定“树德堂”。可翻译为“Southern Hall of Establishing Virtues”。
