《汉英翻译教程》（中国图书刊行社，１９９３）１９５页和２６４页《青春之歌》片段的翻译：
从山海关外开进关里的火车忽然一辆辆全装满了哭哭叫叫逃难的人，靠近北戴河车站的杨庄群众，听说这个情况，已经有点儿惊奇了；接着又听说日本海军占领了秦皇岛，杨庄村里就沸腾起来了；......
It was the day when the train coming through the Shanhaiguan Pass from beyond the Great Wall brought coachloads of refugees, weeping and in great distress. The people of Yangzhuang Village near Beidaihe Station were startled out of their complacency when they learned that the Japanese navy had occupied Qinhuangdao on the nearby coast. Yangzhuang Village was thrown into a ferment.

评：“听说”并使人“有点儿惊奇”的情况是火车运来了很多难民。使村里“沸腾起来”（即陷入混乱）的是日本海军占领秦皇岛的消息。但在所引的英文翻译中，日本海军占领秦皇岛的消息，却被看作“惊奇”的原因。而“这个情况”没有译出。就是说，“接着”连接的前后（虽然是有关的）两件事，即听说难民来和听说秦皇岛陷落，被混在一起。
