还有学校名McGill, McMaster 的Mc是什么来源，
是否象法文的Sainte,德文中的Von跟宗教或贵族有关？

'Mc-' is a variant of 'Mac-', which is a prefix meaning 'son of', used in Scottish and Irish family names.

This is something I heard about long time ago but I
can't guarantee it is completely right. Anyway, I am presenting it
here for your enjoyment.
In Scandanavian countries, they take the last first name of the
father , add -son as a suffix, to make it the last name of the son.
E.g. Eric begets Hammer. Hammer becomes Hammer Ericson. Hammer begets
Samuel, Samuel becomes Samuel Hammerson, et seq.
In Scotland, they do the same thing except they add the Mac as
a prefix instead of the -son.
So if Donald begets Ronald, you will get Hamburger ! Well, I mean
Ronald MacDonald. Then if Ronald MacDonald beget Cleod, he gets to be
called Cleod MacRonald and so on.
