BTW : If someone knows the whereabouts of Prof.James Liu, can you please e-mail
me at mailto://dstephen@openface.ca ? Thanks.
The Prof J.L. I am referring to is the one that taught at Univ of Hawaii in
(I think) 1961-1963, then moved on to Univ of Chicago.
He wrote several books on the poetry of Li Shan Yang etc..

Please check out this website (http://h-net2.msu.edu/~asia/threads/thrdorientalism.html) and this Professor Lynn might be helpful. If it doesn't work and you desperately :-) want to find out Liu's current whereabouts, I may try some other ways to get the information for you (no guarantee it would work, however). The only thing is I'm afraid you'll have to be patient :-)

If you can't get in touch with him through that Prof. Lynn, please DO let me know 'cause it shouldn't be so difficult for me to ask some professors at my school who might have some ideas where Prof. Liu is now. Good luck!!
(Well, on 2nd thoughts, I can ask anyway, but sorry you'll have to wait for one week or two. I'll let you know how it goes.)

Dear Hz,
I got in touch with Prof.Lynn who provided me with many details
concerning the Liu family. Unfortunately Prof.Liu passed away in 1986.
I was told that his former wife Claire now lives in Palo Alto, address unknown.
If I had known of this a year ago I might have attempted to traced her.
It's a case of missed opportunities since I was in Palo Alto for
3 days last August !
I like to thank you for your help. Prof.Lynn's information on Claire
and James has cleared up some puzzles that have been bothering me for many many years.

Dear DS, your song made me cry. A bit embarassing to say this but it's true and hopefully not many people would notice this message on the 2nd page of the forum. I just noticed this afternoon that there's a link to your homepage on 汉英主页 and made a brief visit. I love it, especially those old pictures. Like your postings here of looking for an old friend, they, too, give me a vivid sense of time and history. When I have more free time later, I hope I will come back and visit your "garden" again. Thanks to your question which has initiated all this experience of mine. My sincere gratitude and best wishes!! hz
