Re: my previous post about powers of 10 units as recorded in the
Ming dynasty text of " 皇极经世易通变."
I wonder if there is an "official" translation for the title
of this particular "text"(?). "encyclopedia"(?" or "what ???".
I am in the process of adding a section to my web page
with the heading of " A potpurri". One of the topic
would be "Nomenclature of Powers of Ten Units in Ancient China" (Hmmm.. once again
claiming subtly that China got a system before anyone
else!)
Thanks once again.
Sorry, no red envelopes for your efforts !
恭喜发财, 利是(红包) 递来!

陈荣捷(Wing-tsit Chan)先生在所著A Sourse Book in Chinese Philosophy (Princeton, 1963)中,将(宋)
邵雍先生重要著作“皇极经世书”英译为Supreme Principles Governing the World,可谓经典译法。

I might have inadvertently misled you and others when I posted
my message about that Powers of 10 message. I went looking for
the little piece of magazine clipping I had and , upon
reading it over again, realized that I had previously misquoted it.
In a foot note (which I never look at !!!), it says " the Ming
author Fei Wan Kai transcripted it as"皇极经世 通变.". And in
the aritcle it mentioned that the system of numbers was originally
contained in (易 通变. ). I have a feeling that the" 皇极经世易通变."
"transciption" is a transcription of this early Sung Dynasty work
you mentioned.
Just to be on the safe side, I put down, in my page, that
the Ming dynasty work is a transcription of an earlier work and
the origin of the system may be as far back as the Sung Dynasty,
somewhere around Y1K !
Thanks again.

I might be able to do some research on this, in order for you to claim without reservation that we Chinese have indeed had a complete set of characters for those astronomical numbers since 1K years ago! :-) Again, however, I need some time and have to ask for your patience. 受人压岁,忠人之事:-);吃完饺子,明年交卷!:-)
