意大利作家Edmondo de Amicis(1846-
1908)的著作"Cuore",全世界有25种译本。
英译本译为“Heart" 和"An Italian school
boy's journals".中译本为<<爱的教育>>,有
多种板本，解放前后都有。畅销不衰。听说有
<<续爱的教育>>.作者是Amicis的朋友，姓
Mantegazza,名字不详。有日文译本，希望知道
有无英译本。如有，英译本译名是什么？
2."Bacon's Essays"里 on virtue一篇文章
中，开头有这么一句话：“Vertue is like
a rich stone,best plain set."
水天同译为”才德有如宝石，最好是用素净的东西
镶嵌。“
这里的"best plain set"是什么意思？怎么译？

“Vertue is like a rich stone, best plain set."
才德犹如瑰丽宝石，以其朴素本色镶嵌为最佳。
“Best plain set” 应可延伸为 “It looks best when it is set plain”。 此处 plain 是副词，意为 in an undecorated， unsophisticated manner = 朴素无华。

(If de Amicis' book you mentioned were "Cuore : libro per i ragazzi", I'd be more confident in my result.)
