请教如何将下句中的the status-degrading potency 译成恰当的中文，意思是很跌身份，丢面子，可找不到好的中文来表达，请各位帮忙，谢在先了：
The implication of arbitrary exertions of state power are particularly somber here because of the severity of the sanctions administrated by the criminal law and the status-degrading potency of criminal proceedings.

可否绕个弯把意思说明白：
由于依照刑法处罚严厉，加之刑事诉讼程序本身极易令涉嫌者大失身份(或：身份受损)，......
加了些字。如“令涉嫌者”，是为了准确译出 -ing 才加的。 供参考。

野草君的“加之”“极易”用的好。加上“涉嫌者”就好处理多了。“大失身份”我觉得是目前最好的选择，但我觉得应有更贴切的。如果是一般人，并无很高身份可失呢？不管犯没犯罪，一上法庭就已经脸面丢尽了。隐士用“掉价”，口语中正是这个意思，象克林顿受审掉价掉大了。但在文件中还不宜太口语化。多谢！
